Photodistorzija

Biennial photography exhibition

Photodistortion is an artistic project that, through a conceptual approach, aims to present photography as a product, a medium, and an inevitable form of communication in contemporary society. The project is conceived as an exhibition of photographs accompanied by presentations of specific procedures, manifestations, and applications of photography within various artistic spaces.

The winner of this year’s Photodistortion is Petar Katavić, Assistant Professor of Painting at the Academy of Arts in Split, who received the award for a series of photographs documented in the Trogir shipyard. His work focuses on the monotonous ambience of industrial spaces (such as factories and warehouses) where workers leave their mark—whether in the form of quotes, names, words like “madness”, or fragments of pornographic magazines. Through Katavić’s lens, these traces, damaged and faded by the passage of time and weather conditions, transform into an apparent collage endowed with remarkable artistic value. These values are not created by the artist’s intentional action, but arise as a product of time itself. The prize is a solo exhibition as part of the 13th edition of Photodistortion.

This year, the biennial photography exhibition consists of two solo exhibitions in the Zuccato Gallery and a group exhibition of selected authors who applied to the open call. The joint opening will take place at the Zuccato Gallery on Wednesday, November 27 at 7 PM, where the winner of the competition section will also be announced. The awarded artist will receive a solo exhibition in the Small Gallery.

Gallery opening hours: 10 AM – 12 PM and 4 PM – 7 PM closed on Sundays and public holidays
