The Signature Dish: 4 of a Kind
This year, fine dining becomes a lens for Istria\'s sacred heritage. Inspired by frescoes that still breathe in village churches, we translate image into flavour, pigment into texture, devotion into service. Each course is an act of memory - a contemporary rite that is both cultural and culinary: respectful, radical, and unforgettable.
The dinner is hosted by chef Cap Aureo Jeffrey Vella, Danijel & Ilja Đekić from Rovinj’s Monte, Marina Gaši, David Žefran — chef of the Slovenian restaurant Milka (holder of two Michelin stars), and Cap Aureo’s head pastry chef Maša Salopek.
For this year’s edition of the charity dinner, chef Jeffrey James Vella and his team drew inspiration from the frescoes of Istrian churches: the Church of the Holy Spirit in Bale, St. Mary on Škriline in Beram, and St. Barnabas in Vižinada. Each dish will serve as a kind of synesthetic interpretation of these frescoes, and the dinner is announced as a gastronomic and cultural event.
Frescoes on a Plate will be presented in five courses — five interpretations and five chapters of Istrian history, ranging from traditional Istrian soup to Rovinj lobster. The dishes will be paired with wines from Veralda. All proceeds from the dinner will be donated to the students of the Eugen Kumičić Vocational School in Rovinj, under the mentorship of professor Tanja Ranić Rovis. The students participated in every stage of the project, from the initial concept to the final presentation, making it a valuable hands-on experience for them.
The ticket price is €170 per person. Guests can choose between tables with a panoramic view of Rovinj or seats near the open kitchen, where they can watch the dishes being prepared up close.
